Realising that an academic career was not in the offing at the Inny (as the only thing I excelled at was art) I was now heavily into Surrealism and Salvator Dali. So, knowing my entrance for the school’s big Hobbies Day Exhibition stood no chance, I had nothing to lose by sending in this painting of my profile in a red and white sky, plus army boots and one finger protruding through the carpet! Strangely Mr (Stan) Reed gave me first prize. I sometimes wonder what became of it.”
